HASTINGS, Neb. — A more than 70-year-old tradition is back in Hastings.

The Hastings Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual pancake day on Tuesday at the Adams County Fairgrounds. The event typically draws around 2500 people, meaning lots of pancake prep for Kiwanis volunteers like Jim Lewis

“During the day we will go through probably more than 800 pounds of flour," Lewis said. "These are not pre-mixed pancakes, we make them right there on site. (It’s) our special, secret recipe.”

Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for kids with a $1 up-charge for buying at the door. The ticket gets you access to all-you-can eat pancakes, sausage and drinks. The proceeds will fund Kiwanis activities and service projects. Club members say they support more than 20 projects locally including the Hastings Library summer reading program, providing dictionaries for every third grader and offering summer camp and college scholarships.

The Pancake Day event lasts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
