KEARNEY, Neb. — This stage will soon be coming to life with family-friendly entertainment.

The Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney is hosting special free and reduced programming in March. "Paddington Bear Gets in a Jam" will be offered on March 2 at a reduced price of $12 for children and $15 for adults.

Executive Director Denise Christensen says it’s part of the non-profit center’s efforts to engage the next generation with performing arts.

“There’s nothing like being in a darkened theater and seeing actors interact with the audience and everyone around you laughing and smiling and applauding. It’s a wonderful experience,” Christensen said.

A national touring company is bringing a multi-level set and life-size bear for the Paddington Bear performance. 760 elementary school children will watch the matinee show and tickets are on sale for the evening edition.

The next day, the Merryman Center is hosting "Henrietta Solway", an original play inspired by Willa Cather short stories. Some high schools are sending students to attend but the shows are also open to the public.

“It’s an amazing adaptation that will introduce high school students to… the stories of Willa Cather,” Christensen said.

The performances are free to attend and are at 9:45 and 1:00 on March 3.
