KEARNEY, Neb. -- A faulty chimney is being blamed for a weekend house fire in central Nebraska.
It happened in the early morning hours of Saturday at a home west of Kearney.
Kearney Fire officials said the home's fire alarm alerted the family to the fire while they were sleeping and everyone was able to make it out OK.
Kearney Fire Department said they called in Elm Creek Fire to help because of the remote location and extremely cold temperatures at the time.
Fire officials said they were able to extinguish the fire after about five minutes and contain the damage.
