KEARNEY, Neb. — Kearney Catholic High School has named a new boys basketball coach and activities director following recent changes in the school’s athletics leadership.
A familiar face in the Kearney community and a 2013 graduate of Kearney Catholic, David Squiers will take on the roles after longtime activities director Rick Petri and boys basketball coach Bob Langan stepped down from their positions.
He and his five sisters attended the school and later competed in collegiate athletics.
After high school, Squiers continued his academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he played football for the Lopers. He was a four-year starting center and earned all-conference honors as an offensive lineman.

Squiers began his career in education at Cozad Community Schools as an elementary physical education teacher. While there, he also met his wife, Hannah.
He later moved to Loomis Public Schools, where he served as a physical education teacher, activities director, assistant football coach and head boys basketball coach.
Squiers said returning to Kearney Catholic is meaningful for him and his family.
“When this position opened up, it felt like a calling from God to take that next step in our chapter,” Squiers said. “My family and I have been incredibly blessed by Kearney Catholic, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community that has meant so much to us.”
Kearney Catholic Principal Matt Rogers said Squiers brings leadership experience and a strong connection to the school.
“David brings a tremendous passion for Catholic education and for developing student-athletes,” Rogers said. “We are excited to welcome him and his wife, Hannah, back to the Stars community.”
As activities director, Squiers will oversee all athletic and co-curricular programs at Kearney Catholic High School.
