Iowa teen arrested following pursuit in central Nebraska
AURORA, Neb. -- Authorities arrested an Iowa teen after a pursuit in central Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol said that around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper saw a Jeep Liberty speeding on Highway 34 between Phillips and Aurora.
NSP said the trooper tried to do a traffic stop, but the driver, a 16-year-old, refused to yield and sped up instead. It was reported that the trooper then started a pursuit.
Authorities said that the suspect vehicle was reaching speeds that were over 100 mph as they continued west on Highway 34.
About a minute later, the trooper said the Jeep tried to pass a vehicle that was heading west by going into the eastbound lane. At this point the drive had cause a collision between a Dodge Ram and a Honda Accord heading in their respective directions.
NSP said all of the drivers involved were checked and medically cleared at the scene or local hospital.
The 16-year-old driver was lodged in the Sarpy County Juvenile Justice Center.
