LINCOLN — A Central Nebraska man will spend more than a decade in federal prison after officials say he planned to have sex with a fictitious nine-year-old girl.
A United States District Judge sentenced 32-year-old Jason Griess, formerly of Ashton, to 12.5 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release in a hearing on Monday. There is no parole in the federal system.
A news release says Griess talked in August 2019 with an Online Covert Employee of the FBI’s child exploitation task force. Officials say Griess tried to make arrangements to travel to Utah to have sex with the FBI worker’s fictitious nine-year-old daughter. Griess sent a child porn image during the conversation.
The FBI then searched Griess’s devices and found 124 child porn images on his phone and 183 videos and images on his online accounts. He confessed to sending the image and saving and storing child porn.
The judge also ordered Griess to pay $6,000 to a fund established for victims of child sexual exploitation.
