Alda man facing federal indictment on three child porn charges

ALDA, NE — A Central Nebraska man is going to federal court on child porn charges.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced a three-count indictment against Michael Melgaard of Alda on Wednesday. Two counts accuse the 53-year-old of producing child porn involving two different victims between December 3rd and January 20th. The third count alleges possession and access with intent to view child porn in which the minor or minors were under the age of 12.

If convicted of either of the first two counts, he would face at least 15 years in prison and up to a life term of supervised release in addition to hundreds of thousands of dollars in possible fines.
