OMAHA, Neb. -- A 28-year-old man will spend over seven years in prison after being convicted of federal charges related to an intended meth delivery in Nebraska.

Acting U.S. Attorey Steven Russell announced that Daniel Rojas was sentenced last week in federal court in Omaha after convictions for possession of a firearm and possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

U.S. District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Rojas to 87 months' imprisonment. After his release from prison, he will then begin a 5-year term of supervised release.

On July 3, 2020, law enforcement received information that drugs were being sold out of the Aksarben Suites located on Cedar St in Omaha. While conducting surveillance, officers observed a Mercedes leave the parking lot of the Aksarben Suites and commit a traffic violation. During a traffic stop, officers saw Rojas leaning forward in an awkward looking position. A K-9 unit was alerted to the scent of drugs on the passenger side front window of the car.

While searching the vehicle, a black bag was found under the front passengers seat. Officers found a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson SD40 firearm and approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine.

On November 16, 2020, Rojas was arrested on federal charges coming from the possession of the Smith and Wesson firearm. At time of the arrest, Rojas admitted to possessing methamphetamine in a white Buick that was parked nearby. Over 100 gram of methamphetamine was found from Rojas's car.
