Nebraskans are bracing to begin the New Year digging out from potentially heavy snowfall.

Winter storm warnings were issued for 25 Nebraska counties in southeast Nebraska. Forecasters say the heaviest snowfall is expected to begin overnight and all day Saturday.

The National Weather Service says between four and eight inches of snow is expected, along with 35 mph wind gusts creating wind chills as low as 25 below zero.

The rest of the state is under winter weather and wind chill advisories. Around 2-4 inches of snow is expected in northern, central and western Nebraska, but the cold might be more bitter in central Nebraska, with wind chills potentially as low as 30-below.
