OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha Police Department says a 73-year-old man died during an attempted traffic stop Friday morning.

OPD says an officer made contact with the driver, 73-year-old Ray McBride, who was then instructed to pull onto a side street and out of the traffic lane. At that point, OPD says, McBride began driving northbound on 90th Street and continue to Boyd Street, where he stopped and the officer made contact once again.

A second officer arrived to assist, and during the interaction, it was determined McBride was experiencing a medical episode, OPD says. McBride was transported to CHI Immanuel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Because it has been ruled as an in-custody death, the incident is being investigated by the Omaha Police Officer-Involved Investigations Team assisted by investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol and Bellevue Police Department. The results will be presented to a grand jury once the investigation is complete.
