News Channel Nebraska has learned that the Lincoln County GOP, while stopping short of censuring the two-term Senator, is making its disappointment with Fischer especially explicit.

It's clearly not political death by a thousand cuts but it can't feel good.

For the second time in two months Republican Senator Deb Fischer is on the receiving end of some friendly fire—accused of atrocious wasteful spending.

News Channel Nebraska has learned that the Lincoln County GOP, while stopping short of censuring the two-term Senator, is making its disappointment with Fischer especially explicit.

In a 700 word, late September, letter to Fischer the county party noted, “Extreme Disappointment in and Admonition of Sen. Deb Fischer in Response to Her Infrastructure Votes.”

Fischer is accused of voting for a $1.2 trillion bill that is hiding “nefarious expenses” and trespassing on individual rights.

The in-and-around North Platte group also chastised Fischer for working with Senate Democrats: “We believe you should reevaluate your commitment to bipartisanship. It has not been reciprocated and you will not gain approval of the liberals by conceding to their attempts to destroy this nation.”

News Channel Nebraska has asked Fischer for comment but we’ve not received any reply.

As NCN first reported in late August, the Hitchcock County Republican Party voted unanimously—24-0—to formally censure Fischer for that same infrastructure vote.

At that time Fischer, who is not up for reelection until 2024, was accused of “callous betrayal” and “hypocrisy.”

Fischer did not respond to our request for comment that time either.

Ryan Hamilton, the Executive Director of the Nebraska GOP, tells NCN that not only is he “highly supportive” of Fischer, so is State Chairman Dan Welch and plenty of grass roots Republicans across the state.

Hamilton adding that Fischer, one of the most conservative members of the Senate, received a standing ovation when she was introduced at Friday night’s Sarpy County Lincoln Day GOP dinner.

Full Letter Below:

Acknowledgement of Extreme Disappointment in, and Admonition of Senator Deb Fischer in Response to Her Infrastructure Votes

1.    We admonish you to never vote in favor of immense bills as they are used to hide nefarious expenses and trespass on our individual rights. They are unwieldy and unintelligible especially in the light of the shortened period of examination prior to a vote. Unrelated measures that are important deserve to be brought forward into the light in their own right; no undesirable elements of a bill should be allowed to pass simply by being tucked within a gargantuan bloated proposal.  You should support having one day of examination for every 2 pages of a submitted bill after public release.  A 2,000-page bill should receive 1,000 days of examination.

2.    We believe you should reevaluate your commitment to bipartisanship. It has not been reciprocated and you will not gain approval of the liberals by conceding to their attempts to destroy this nation.  You will never satisfy their lust for power over the individual.  Your goal should be preserving the rights and liberties of Nebraskan citizens. Do not allow yourself to be used.

3.    We charge you to understand that Infrastructure is not in the Constitution of the United States as a responsibility of the Federal Government.  If you believe that it falls in the “Promote the General Welfare”, consider the debt this bill adds to our rampant National Debt which is not in our general welfare.
In your own words,

“One of my proudest accomplishments in the Legislature was the

Build Nebraska Act, a law that is now helping to build roads all

                 across our state”.

            Also in your own words,

“At the state and local level those core responsibilities are public safety, infrastructure and education.”

Apparently with your strong support of federal bailouts, you now believe your great accomplishment fell short of actually providing for the state’s infrastructure needs. These former statements of state responsibility now contradict your current view that infrastructure is the purview of the federal government. This notion contributes to dependence on federal dollars in areas that should be the responsibility of each state.

4.    We reproach your vote favoring an over $1,000,000,000,000 Bill because Nebraska might receive a pittance of the total.  We find this action to forfeit your claim of being fiscally responsible. We ask you not to insult the worth of Nebraska Integrity in this manner.  We reject the idea that you are continuing to “oppose reckless social spending on bad ideas”.

5.    We reproach any representative trying to justify bad judgement with the excuse of obtaining free money because we know this money is not free; it will continue to drain our economy and taxpayers, increase our crushing debt load and bring about the devastation of our country.  We count that cost as too high.

6.    We reject your statement, “The bill has no new tax hikes for American families” because it fails to acknowledge the tremendous financial toll inflation and the national debt interest takes on our American families and workers. It fails to acknowledge the pathway to increased corporate taxes and death taxes which will destroy Nebraska farm corporations, ranches and small business owners and their ability to pass on a lifetime of diligent efforts to their families.

7.    We reject the excuses that “it would have passed anyway” and they “could have passed the bill with zero Republican priorities” as there are never justifications for selling out your fellow Nebraskans for such an unfathomable burden as this bill.  Never believe that just because you were allowed some input, you should favor the bill.  An injurious bill will never become good by sprinkling a few confections on it.

8.    We do accept your personal responsibility for the creation and passage of this bill and your willingness to take accountability for its end results.

The action of informing Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer of our disappointment in her recent support of the Democrat bills regarding “infrastructure” was discussed and approved at the September 13, 2021 meeting of the Lincoln County Republicans.

Sincerely, Carol Friesen

Lincoln County Republican Chair
