NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resource District provided an update to their Battle Creek WFPO watershed plan.

During Thursday night's meeting, the 60% progress update was given to board members, detailing the status of the Battle Creek WFPO watershed plan. There it was announced that of the three plans originally proposed only the multiple dam project was feasible. The other two plans, a diversion channel and the creation of a large single dam, was not moving forward pending review by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

No action is being taken by the board at this time, as they are still waiting for feedback from the NRCS and Engineers to see if their multi-dam project is within their requirements.

"When the report is finally submitted NRCS approves it and the Corp of Engineers, that report will be made available to the NRD and the board," LENRD Mark Hall Explained. "The board will then decide depending on funding and sources of funding, whether or not to proceed with a solution."

The watershed plan will receive feedback later this year. If the board decides to pursue the plan, they will submit it in January of next year for approval.
