SIDNEY, NE — Plenty of volunteers turned out Friday to help make sure Greenwood Cemetery is ready for Memorial Day services next week.

Retired Army Col. Larry Nelson began placing flags at gravestones of servicemen and women 13 years ago. Now the tradition has grown to include the local VFW Post, DAV and American Legion Chapters and other members of the community.

"It warms my heart to see all these people out here," Nelson said.

Sidney's annual Memorial Day service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 31.
