LINCOLN, Neb. -- A special day dedicated to America's farmers - right in the middle of a special week dedicated to Nebraska producers.

It’s AG Day, right in the middle of AG Week for the State. The perfect moment to recognize an industry that has endured and thrived in the nation for centuries. And officials say Nebraska is leading the way.

"Nebraska produces almost 6% of all AG commodities produced in the US,” said Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Steve Wellman, “that places Nebraska in #3 among the States, but #1 on a per-capita basis.”

“Nebraska’s producers are extremely productive, and we continue to find ways to grow more while using less resources."

As the service industry gradually replaced production jobs throughout the 20th century, Nebraska has maintained and excelled as a pillar of agriculture in the nation.

One in four jobs in the state is related to the industry, and agriculture accounts for about 20% of the overall economy.

Governor Ricketts officially declared AG week for the state on Monday - following meetings with producers to commend their resilience during the pandemic and compliment their success.

“We were able to grow our dairy output by 3.6%, even with the pandemic," said Governor Pete Ricketts at the 2021 Dairy Convention in Columbus.

With Ag week underway, Ricketts is touring more producers throughout the state to highlight the work they do each and every day.
