CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — What killed a 2-year-old boy found dead in a dumpster at a Cheyenne apartment complex remains uncertain despite an autopsy, police said.

The body of Athian Rivera was found a few hours after he was reported missing Feb. 19.

His mother’s boyfriend, Wyatt Lamb, 27, was arrested at home that evening on unrelated warrants. Lamb remained jailed Tuesday.

Police announced Feb. 23 they were recommending murder and aggravated child abuse charges against Lamb but prosecutors hadn't filed charges in the case, KGAB Radio reported.

Lamb's attorney didn't immediately return a message Tuesday seeking comment.

The autopsy was inconclusive, Cheyenne police spokeswoman Alexandra Farkas said.

“We’ve just continued working with the district attorney and that’s pretty much where we’re at right now,” Farkas said. “We’re still not able to identify any other subjects but that affidavit was turned over so now it’s kind of a waiting game.”
