OMAHA, NE — Two of the four Sidney wrestlers still have a shot at a gold medal after the first day of the Class B Nebraska State Activities Association (NSAA) state wrestling championships. 

In the 120 pound weight class, junior Austin Munier won his opening round match up against Andon Stenger of Columbus Lakeview in an 11-6 decision. Munier then earned victory by pin in the quarterfinals over Bryce Karlin of Beatrice to advance to the semifinal round. 

Senior Brady Robb is also in the semifinal round in the 182 pound weight class. He earned a 11-5 decision victory over Wayne's Reid Korth. He then defeated Cooper Hancock from Wahoo by pin in the quarterfinals. 

Munier and Robb will wrestle in the semifinals when day two begins on Saturday. Robb faces Bennington's Luke MacDonald in the semis while Munier has a bout with Omaha Skutt's Zachary Ourada. 

Freshman Chance Houser still can earn a bronze medal in the 106 pound weight class. Houser won his first round match up against Elkhorn North's Tyler Japp by pin. In the quarterfinals, Caden Svoboda of Aurora defeated Houser by pin. 

Houser then moved to the consolation side of the bracket where he defeated Waverly's Garrison Brehm via pin. He will start Saturday with a bout against Cadyn Coyle of Bennington in round three of the consolation bracket. 

Senior Hunter Ahrendt's season came to an end on Friday. He dropped his opening round match up against Ashland-Greenwood's Luke Lambert by pin. 

In the consolation round, Ahrendt lost to Schuyler's Bariel Moyao in a 5-2 decision. 

Wrestling on Saturday for Class B begins at 8:00 a.m. MST.

Weigh-ins for Class C begin at 2:30 p.m. MST with matches starting at 4:00 p.m. Four wrestlers from Bridgeport will compete in Omaha. They are: Chance Cooper (126), Danien Bell (138), Trevor Widener (152) and Steven Menke (160).
