GRAND ISLAND - Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday the Grand Island Fire Department was dispatched out near the corner of West 2nd and Logan for a house fire.

All of the occupants were home at the time, and able to escape.

One of the people was burned and transported to CHI St. Francis. His condition is unknown at this time.

There were also several pets that were removed from the home, some of them did not survive due to the excessive amount of smoke.

If the GIFD didn't get there as quickly as they did it could've been a lot worse.

"When first units got on scene they had heavy smoke and had a working fire inside this home, but the crews got after it right away and it was confined," said Grand Island Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief John Mayer. "The heavy fire damage was in one bedroom, and the rest of the home from top to bottom had extensive smoke damage."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
