BEATRICE – A Nebraska State Fire Marshal investigator says an unattended candle left burning, was the cause of an early morning apartment fire Monday, in Beatrice.

Firefighters were sent to the intersection of 13th and Court, where smoke and flames were coming from the upper floor of the apartment building.  Fire Captain Craig Fisher said the lone occupant of the upper floor apartment apparently had left for a time, when the fire broke out.

Two other occupants, who live separately in the two lower-floor apartments, got out of the building without injury.

The fire did an estimated $45,000 damage to the building and contents.   Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, shortly before 5:15 a.m.
