Steinmeyer becomes KUTT program director, Bauer to stay on morning show
Trevor Steinmeyer, 39, took over as program director for KUTT 99.5, commonly known as "Ol' Red 99.5," on Monday, Mar. 2.
FAIRBURY - One of the most recognized radio stations in southeast Nebraska has promoted one of its own employees to a leadership position.
Trevor Steinmeyer, 39, took over as program director for KUTT 99.5, commonly known as "Ol' Red 99.5," on Monday, Mar. 2. A native of Lyons, NE, Steinmeyer first came to Ol' Red in 2003, and has served in many capacities, from sales to sports, from morning show to webmaster and more.
"I've pretty much done everything when it comes to radio," Steinmeyer said. "You have to do all that stuff as you progress in the industry. I'm the go-to guy now. I've been fortunate to work with one of the greatest program directors of all time in Randy Bauer. He's always been honest and fair in how he managed the station, and those are two things I'll take from him as I continue my radio career."
Bauer, 65, started at KUTT as program director in 1983, and will stay on the popular Phil, Randy and the T-Man Show, which airs every weekday morning from 6-8:30 a.m.
"I'll still be around," Bauer said. "(Trevor) is very talented. Probably the most talented guy I've worked with in the radio 'biz.'"
“I’ve been blessed to have worked with these two for a long time and have a huge amount of respect for what they do," general manager Brad Achtemeier said. "They’re fun, but professional. I think if they wanted to be national entertainers, they could do it.”
KUTT first went on the air in the fall of 1983. Its 100,000 watt signal can be heard in 11 Nebraska counties and four counties in northern Kansas. The KUTT tower is about a mile south of Harbine and is over 750 feet tall. The studio is located on 4th Street in downtown Fairbury.
The station eventually became known as "Today's Best Country" and airs a variety of new and old country music. It carries dozens of area high school sporting events every year, it's the radio home of Doane Tiger football and it's a Motor Racing Network affiliate, carrying all 36 NASCAR Cup Series races every year.
Ol' Red 99.5 was purchased by Flood Communications in 2015, and became part of the News Channel Nebraska network, along with sister station KWBE in Beatrice and 1310 AM KGMT in Fairbury.
