BEATRICE – Separate weekend accidents injured two people in Wymore and at a highway intersection seven miles west of Beatrice.

Saturday night at about 10:30, Gage County law officers and rescue personnel were sent to U.S. Highway 77 and West “I” Street, in Wymore.  A northbound car driven by 30-year-old Gerlach Weston, of Plymouth, struck the back of a northbound pickup, driven by 56-year-old James Ullman, of Wymore.

Deputies say Ullman was turning left into Ullman Auto Sales when the collision happened.  Weston reported not seeing the turn signal of the truck, in time to avoid the collision.  Ullman was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of injuries.  Weston was not hurt.

Sunday at around 4:50 p.m., sheriff’s officers and rescue personnel were sent to the junction of Nebraska Highways 103 and 4, west of Beatrice. 35-year-old Jessica Leach, of Lincoln, was traveling south on Nebraska 103 when the brakes on her 2003 Chrysler 300 failed, at the junction with Nebraska Highway 4.

The car went through the T-intersection, into the south ditch where it struck an embankment.  The car came to rest in a nearby field.  Leach was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Authorities say she was not wearing a safety restraint.  The car’s airbags deployed in the accident.
