The Nebraska wrestling team was ranked No. 3 in the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, the highest the program has been rated since February 17, 2009.

The Huskers began the season at No. 5 following a 2018-19 campaign which saw the program achieve its fifth consecutive Top-10 NCAA finish. Following season-opening dual victories against Division II No. 24 Chadron State (37-3) and No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney (47-(minus-1)), NU held firm in the fifth spot in the Wrestling Coaches Polls released on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.

Things changed dramatically this past weekend. On Saturday, then-No. 10 Lehigh secured a 21-20 home dual victory against then-No. 4 Oklahoma State. And while the Big Red competed at the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Sunday, then-No. 11 Virginia Tech scored a 21-15 upset of then-No. 3 Ohio State 21-15 in Columbus, Ohio. With No. 3 and No. 4 going down, the Huskers had a clear path to the Top 3.

Nebraska (2-0) returns to action on Friday, Nov. 22, when they host Wyoming in the Devaney Center. Dual action is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. NU then heads east to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24.
