Huskers Sustain Success on Day 2 of ITA Central Regional Championships

The Nebraska men's tennis team completed Day 2 of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Norman, Okla. on Friday.

The Nebraska men's tennis team completed Day 2 of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Norman, Okla. on Friday. Three Huskers advanced to the Round of 32 in singles while a pair of Huskers advanced to the Round of 8 in doubles. 

The day began with two closely-contested Round of 16 doubles matches. Sophomores Victor Moreno Lozano and William Gleason were narrowly defeated by Siim Troost and Vlad Lobak of Minnesota, 8-7(4). NU was on the winning side of the other match, however, as freshman Albert Sprlak-Puk and South Carolina transfer Patrick Cacciatore advanced to the Round of 8 by defeating Creighton's Nick Campbell and Mac Mease, 8-7(2).   

When play shifted to singles, Lincoln native William Gleason led off the Big Red with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Scott Hjelm (Oral Roberts) to advance to the Round of 32. Also advancing were Victor Moreno Lozano, who defeated Juan Pablo Cenoz of Tulsa (7-6, 7-6) in the Round of 64, and Albert Sprlak-Puk, who earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Nebraska-Omaha's Davis Lawley.  

In Friday's other action, Slim Toost (Minnesota) defeated freshman Shunya Maruyama, 6-4, 6-1, and senior Chris Dean fell to Iowa's Will Davies, 6-1, 6-2. 

The Huskers will return to action on Saturday, looking to continue their successful Central Regional Championships run. Fans can follow @huskermtennis on Twitter for continued tournament updates.
