COLUMBUS - Some Columbus residents say there's a major issue with their most recent water bills.

Folks here say they're seeing an alarming spike in their water usage for July. They don't understand why and the city says it's investigating.

If you live in Columbus, you may be feeling flushed by the amount of your most recent water bill.

Since Wednesday, residents have vented on social media that their bills are high and they don't understand why.

“This month, we got ours and it was up to $100. It said we used 30,000 gallons.”

Many say that's the highest they've ever seen them.

Lisa Hammons says while the amount her household owes didn't jump that much, according to her bill, her water usage jumped by 5,500 gallons. But she says she doesn't remember using that much water.

"Is water being evaporated out of the pipes and we’re being charged for it?”

And while she says she filled her 500-gallon pool three times in July, that doesn't completely account for how much her bill says she used.

“I expected an increase. That’s 1,500 gallons right there. Where’s the other 3,000 gallons going?”

Others say even though their bills say they didn't use much more water in July, the amount they owe for that month is through the roof.

We reached out to city officials for comment. They didn't give us an interview, but they did say there is something wrong and that staff are investigating the problem. They're telling customers to ignore their water bill for now. Any who already paid will receive back credit on their accounts.
