NEBRASKA CITY - After a 5-4 season and a loss in the first round of the Class D1 playoffs a year ago, the Lourdes Central Catholic football team continues to gain more experience with a young squad.

One of the strong areas of the program is the offensive and defensive lines. The Knights return a series of players who have been together for four years.

Head Coach Clay Carlton is looking for his young players in skill positions to gain more confidence and he believes the can have an all-around good year.

Despite a 56-18 loss to Class D2 No. 2 Falls City Sacred Heart in their season opener last week, Carlton says their season goals are still intact.

“You know our goals as a team are the same as they always are. We want to win our district and qualify for the playoffs. Then just see what happens from there.”

Lourdes (0-1) will be on the road to play Tri County (1-0) on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Otoe County Country (KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and newschannelnebraska.com).
