NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City City Council approved the use of downtown sidewalks for Lemon Days July 26-28, but a church’s request to use the Sunken Parking lot is stalled.
Lemonade stands and small business booths are planned for Memorial Way for Lemon Days and the cute doggie awards on July 27.
Portions of sidewalks will be used for lemonade stands.
The city also approved use of Steinhart Park for a carnival July 4-7.
Barricades will be used beginning Thursday evening for setup. The carnival is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to midnight.
Calvary Community Church’s request to use the Sunken Parking lot over the AppleJack Festival has been tabled for the second straight meeting.
Sandra Dorn told commissioners Monday that the church would erect a tent and organize kids activities and sales booths on Saturday, Sept. 21. A community worship service is planned for Sunday morning prior the car show.
Amy Allgood of Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce said AppleJack has grown into a national Top 10 festival because of organizations like the church, which are willing to organize activities and events.
She said NCTC wants to add the events to the festival calendar, but there is opposition to losing the parking in the lot during the festival beginning Friday night.
Allgood told commissioners there is still time to look for an alternative location.
