Milligan's 'June Jubilee' brings a whole weekend of festivities to the Fillmore County village

By News Channel NebraskaMILLIGAN - The 32nd annual Milligan 'June Jubilee' is set to get underway this weekend.
Things get started on Friday evening with a concert. Country group LoneStar is the headliner, with Darryl Worley as a special guest.
The Forgotten Highway Band, a group from Minneapolis, will open the show at 7 p.m.
Gates open at 6, and tickets at the gate will cost $40 each.
Festivities don't end when the concert's over, though. All weekend, the Fillmore County village has activities planned, including a co-ed slow pitch softball tournament, sand volleyball tournament, a BBQ cook-off, a beer garden and more.
Milligan Community Club president Jeff Spiehs says the annual Jubilee is always unanimously supported by the whole community.
“You get 100% cooperation from the town,” Spiehs said. “Everybody is wanting to chip in and help out to make the town look nice. Everyone just does a nice job and pulls together.”
Spiehs says the Friday concert typically draws up to 2,000 people, which isn't bad, he says, for a town of 271 people.
More than 30 volunteers have helped set up the event, and will offer their help throughout the weekend.
Omaha's High Heel Band will also perform a free live show on Saturday night, starting at 8 p.m.
Other activities include polka bands, a tractor pull and a parade on Sunday. In the past, Milligan has booked names like Joe Nichols and Phil Vassar.
In the winter of 2014, Milligan made headlines when country icon Lee Brice performed a concert for Pepsi's “Halftime America” commercial, which aired during Super Bowl XLVIII (Seattle 43 Denver 8).
“People know where we're at,” Spiehs said. “When you hear Milligan, Nebraska, people say, 'Oh yeah. I've been there for a concert. I've been to the restaurant.' People know where Milligan is.”
If you don't know where Milligan is, it's 12 miles east of Geneva just off Nebraska Highway 41.
