Fairbury's Parkview Apartments holds open house, shows off improvements Thursday

FAIRBURY - Fairbury's Parkview Apartments have been open since 1965.
The five-story complex located near the entrance of City Park has 60 units, and continues to be upgraded.
Its parking lot was just expanded to include 21 more cars, the roof was made new and there was a $1 million dollar upgrade to the building's heating and cooling systems.
In the past, Parkview installed laundry machines on all five floors, new carpet, better hallway lighting and improved security.
Parkview, which is an income-based housing option, has raised over $1.5 million over the last two years, with large amounts of that coming from Federal Home Loan grants.
Twilya L'Ecuyer, Parkview's executive director, says she wants people to think of the complex as more than just an everyday apartment.
“We work with so many individuals to provide affordable housing options,” she said, “that aren't readily available in the community. We want it to be not only affordable, but safe, clean and comfortable.”
Soon, Parkview will offer their first ever three-bedroom unit, and are close to completing the HVAC air conditioning project for the first and second floors. There are also planned improvements for many of the kitchens and bathrooms.
Parkview employees gave various tours at their open house Thursday, and offered free hotdogs and burgers for those that stopped in.
