BEATRICE - Musicians young and old participated in the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival, held Saturday at the Homestead National Monument of America. Park Ranger Susan Cook says fiddlers in junior, senior and legends divisions compete for nearly $3,500 in prize money.

The event is held in the courtyard outside the Homestead's Education Center. The Monument's staff teams with the local Coffin Family Foundation, the Nebraska Humanities Council and the folk music duo of Debra Greenblatt and David Seay to put on the annual competition.
The competition has been going on for twenty years, and has drawn contestants from Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado.

Each contestant plays three tunes for a panel of three judges…..musicians Steve Hanson, Chris Sayre and Terry Keefe.
In addition to the competition, the festival also includes an acoustic band contest and fiddling and harmonica workshops.
