BEATRICE - Beatrice City Officials are considering an ordinance to allow the interior of the new Stone Hollow Brewery to become an entertainment district. That would allow patrons to carry drinks from one business to the other, within the building.
City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the current liquor license for the Beatrice Mercantile Building doesn't allow that, now.
City Attorney Abby Stark said the application for an entertainment district would have to clearly spell out what the commons area is, for carrying alcohol.

The building is home to several businesses, with the main business the Stone Hollow Brewery.

Although the outdoor seating area could be included in the entertainment district, the public sidewalk would not. Businesses have to be adjacent to the commons area for it to be considered an entertainment district.
Co-owner of the Beatrice Mercantile Building, Todd Hydo says the brewery rents space within the building.

Businesses also located in the building include a cigar shop and a boutique.
Hydo said if the entertainment district is approved, it apparently would be the first in Nebraska contained inside a building. Other entertainment districts have an outdoor commons area.

An ordinance on the entertainment district could come before the city council in a couple of weeks.
