Gage County Sheriff's Department Getting New Transport Van

BEATRICE - Gage County's Sheriff's Office will be getting a new transport van used to haul prisoners to and from Beatrice, to other jails.
The county supervisors have approved purchase of the vehicle, from Beatrice Ford, the lowest of two bids. It replaces one of two vans the department has been using. A third vehicle, an unmarked patrol unit, also is used.
Sheriff Millard Gustafson says the vehicle being replaced has had ample repair problems, including the transmission.

The cost to purchase the van is $31,466. The board also approved the cage that will be installed in the taller, full-size van, for nearly $21,000. Installation expense is expected to add about $800 to $1,500.
Gage County has been transporting prisoners because the current jail doesn't have adequate space to hold the number of inmates the county generally has. Supervisor Gary Lytle says it's a purchase that must be made.
