A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon today in eastern Nebraska, western Iowa

Bitterly cold weather continues today in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa with a wind chill advisory in effect until noon, the National Weather Service said.
Omaha set a record on Sunday for its “lowest high temperature” on that date, said meteorologist Corey Mead. The thermometer topped out at 9 degrees, one degree below the previous record set in 1978 and tied in 2002.
Overnight, wind chills ranged from 20 to 30 below across the area. Monday's high is expected to reach 11 degrees in Omaha, Mead said.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly over the next few days, but still remain well below normal for this time of year. Highs on Tuesday should make it into the mid- to upper teens, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 20s on Wednesday.
Precipitation chances increase Thursday, although any more than an inch of snow in the Omaha area seems unlikely. Higher amounts could fall in northeast Nebraska.
Freezing drizzle could cut into snowfall amounts, adding more uncertainty to this system, especially across southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. For now, the National Weather Service is predicting half an inch near the Kansas-Nebraska border and up to 4 inches in northeast Nebraska.
While dry, mild weather is expected Friday, a more significant storm system is in the works for Saturday. A wintry mix of precipitation will be possible as snow could change to rain and back to snow again, with winds becoming gusty by Saturday night.
The current forecast calls for temperatures to top out in the upper 30s and possibly nudge into the 40s Saturday afternoon.
