KEARNEY, Neb. — A longtime high school basketball coach in Central Nebraska is stepping down.
Kearney Catholic announced Thursday that Bob Langan is finishing his final season as boys basketball coach. Langan served as head coach for 10 seasons.
“I am proud of what our teams have accomplished together, but even more proud of the young men they have become through their hard work and commitment,” Langan said in a statement. “This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it is the right time for me and my family.”
Langan guided the Stars to four state tournament appearances, including a third-place finish in 2022. His teams posted winning seasons six different times.
“Coach Langan has been an exceptional leader and role model for our student-athletes and a tremendous asset to Kearney Catholic,” Athletic Director Rick Petri said. “We are deeply grateful for the time, passion, and dedication he has given to our basketball program and our school community.”
Petri said in his statement that Langan will continue working at Kearney Catholic as a math teacher.
“Thank you to the administration, fellow coaches, players, parents, and fans for your support and trust over the years,” Langan said. “I look forward to continuing to support Kearney Catholic basketball in the future and wish the program nothing but success.”
