HASTINGS, Neb. — Hastings Fire and Rescue is adding a new leader with nearly 30 years of experience.

The department has hired Lance Selph as its new assistant chief of emergency medical services. Selph brings 29 years of experience in both fire suppression and emergency medical services, most recently serving with the Fayetteville Fire Department in Arkansas.

Selph said while his roles have evolved over the years, the mission has remained the same.

“I got into the fire service and EMS because I wanted to help people on what could be the worst day of their lives,” Selph said. “Over time, that desire to help expanded into wanting to make the system better for both the patients we serve and the providers doing the work.”

Troy Vorderstrasse, chief of Hastings Fire and Rescue, said Selph’s experience and leadership will be a strong asset to the department.

“His leadership approach focuses on a culture built on integrity, accountability and improvement,” Vorderstrasse said. “His years of service, leadership abilities, knowledge and dedication to the profession make him a valued member of Hastings Fire & Rescue.”

In his new role, Selph will help oversee EMS logistics and operations and will serve as part of the department’s administration team, which also includes Assistant Fire Chief of Fire Operations Curtis Hensley.
