Nebraska Broadcasters Association to induct four into Hall of Fame

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Broadcasters Association will induct four longtime media professionals into its Hall of Fame this summer.

John Knicely, Kevin Kugler, Steve Lundy and Ken Siemek will be inducted Aug. 11 in Lincoln during the NBA Annual Convention. Established in 1972, the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame will grow to 127 members with the addition of the four inductees.

Knicely spent more than five decades in television news, including 34 years as a news anchor at Omaha’s WOWT-TV before retiring in 2025. Known for his credibility and calm delivery, Knicely covered major events ranging from tornado outbreaks to the COVID-19 pandemic, while also highlighting positive community stories through features such as “John at Work” and “Knicely Done.” He earned numerous industry honors and was widely respected for mentoring young journalists.

Kugler, a York native, has built one of the most extensive play-by-play resumes of any Nebraskan. His career began at KAWL in York and Nebraska Educational Television, followed by roles in Omaha radio and as the voice of the UNO Mavericks. Kugler now works nationally for FOX, Westwood One and the Big Ten Network, and has served as the radio voice of the NCAA Men’s Final Four since 2008 and the Men's College World Series.

Lundy has spent nearly five decades in Nebraska radio, beginning in Fremont and later becoming a familiar voice in Omaha and Lincoln. Since 2004, he has co-hosted “Steve & Gina in the Morning” on KXKT. In addition to numerous industry awards, Lundy is known for his community service and outreach to local schools.

Siemek retired in 2025 after 44 years as a meteorologist at KOLN in Lincoln and KGIN in Grand Island. He guided viewers through major weather events while overseeing dramatic advances in forecasting technology and mentoring future broadcasters.
