LINCOLN, Neb. — A bill would require Nebraska lawmakers to complete a civics knowledge test within 90 days of taking their oath in office. 

Legislative Bill 1066 would require members of the Nebraska legislature to complete a civics assessment based on the U.S. naturalization civics exam. The test would be administered by the clerk of the Legislature.

Passing the exam would not be required, and the lawmakers' scores does not affect their eligibility to serve. However, the scores would be made public. 

Individual test answers remain confidential. Lawmakers who do not pass may attend a voluntary civics seminar.
