LINCOLN, Neb.— A former state senator is back in the state legislature after a previous state senator resigned following inappropriate conduct allegations.

Gov. Jim Pillen appointed Fred Meyer to the Nebraska legislature on Wednesday to replace former state Sen. Dan McKeon.

On Tuesday, the former District 41 senator resigned after facing expulsion for allegations of inappropriate conduct with a legislative staff member.

Meyer says that when he got the call from Pillen he knew he had to jump in to get things moving in this short session. The St. Paul native was also asked to step in for former Sen. Tom Briese in 2023.

Meyer says he will be leaving his predecessor's scandal in the rearview mirror.

Since this session is short, Meyer said he will not be proposing any of his own bills.

Meyer will finish the term ending in 2029.
