WAYNE, Neb. - A recall vote has removed the Wayne County Commissioner who misused county rebates last summer.

Dean Burbach misused county Menards rebates in the summer of 2025, purchasing over $200 worth of personal goods.

A recall election was held to determine if he would be allowed to stay in his position of Commissioner of District 2. The unofficial vote count was 341 in favor of removing him and 206 against removing him.

In a phone call with NCN in August, Burbach admitted to using the rebate money and said he planned to repay the county.

Burbach's opponents placed signs around Wayne encouraging people to vote for his removal.

The commissioner will be removed pending confirmation of the results.
