One dead, one in jail after Highway 81 crash

A Nebraska woman has died and a man is facing charges after an accident on a northeast Nebraska highway.

MADISON, Neb. — A Nebraska woman has died and a man is facing charges after an accident on a northeast Nebraska highway.

It happened around 8:00 Saturday morning at the intersection of Highways 81 and 32 in Madison. A witness told Madison County Sheriff’s investigators that a commercial straight truck was was westbound on Highway 32 and failed to stop at a stop sign. The truck then hit a southbound SUV, sending it into the ditch. The force of the crash caused the straight truck to spin and turn on its side in a ditch.

A news release says an ambulance transported the SUV driver, 49-year-old Robin Cobaugh of Ogallala, to a local hospital where she died. The truck driver, 54-year-old Jose Figueredo was arrested for reckless driving and motor vehicle homicide.

Agencies involved were The Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and The Nebraska State Patrol. The accident is still under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
