Four legged officer is donated new protection gear

One of the smallest officers in the Grand Island Police Department is sporting a protective vest from a non-profit.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.— One of the smallest officers in the Grand Island Police Department is sporting a protective vest from a non-profit.

K9 Cello of GIPD was given a bullet and stab protective vest by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Cello’s vest was sponsored by Jackson Vaughan of Bonham, TX. It has “This gift of protection provided by Jackson Vaughan.” embroidered on.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a non-profit organization giving these vests to first responder dogs across the country. Since 2009 the organization has given more than 6,000 vests.

“Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1,800, weighs an average of 4-5 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978. The program is open to dogs in the country who are least 20 months old and are actively employed and certified.
