Kearney's Central Elementary gets national recognition for student achievement

KEARNEY, Neb. — Central Elementary in Kearney is being recognized nationally for exceptional student performance.

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators announced the school as one of 69 in the country to earn a distinguished school designation. The program recognizes qualifying federally funded schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students.

The program, which as been in place since 1996, showcases the success of students in one of three categories. Central is being recognized for exceptional student performance and academic achievement.

“This recognition is a reflection of the dedication, effort, and heart that our teachers and families invest into our school each day,” principal Teresa Schnoor said. “We believe in creating a learning environment where every student feels valued, inspired, and capable of reaching their full potential. Our students are bright and talented, and I’m thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment that speaks to their hard work and commitment.”

A news release says the ESEA provides additional resources for vulnerable students and federal grants to state educational agencies to improve the quality of public elementary and secondary education. The National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program is used to highlight selected schools that have successfully used their ESEA federal funds to improve education for all students– including economically disadvantaged students.
