GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - City officials in Grand Island are moving forward with a master plan for a former boys scout camp.

At Tuesday’s City council meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Todd McCoy presented the master plan for Camp Augustine, which is now owned by the city.

McCoy says the plan was the result of the public outreach process done for the future development of the 156-acre camp.

The next steps included exploring different options for paying for the $45.3 million plan.

“The next thing is just gonna be funding honestly it’s gonna see how just to basically explore all the different funding options whether it’s grants or if it’s donations or if it’s partnerships or if it’s tax funding or if it’s state dollars," McCoy said. "So, there’s a lot of options and so now the plan is to be developed to, to see how it’s how the property is developed.”

The plans include an outdoor education center, an indoor archery and pellet range, kayak and fishing pond, trails and more.

McCoy says it’s probably going to take years to develop it and it will likely be completed in stages.
