HASTINGS, Neb. – One in seven Nebraskans are facing food insecurities. KHAS Radio in Hastings is aiming to help those people.

According to feedingamerica.org, 267,960 Nebraskans are facing hunger, and 91,240 of them are children.

Beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 24, KHAS Radio morning show host Brandon J. McDermott will camp out on top of the Burlington Center roof until enough food donations are collected.

Brandon will be supplied with basic necessities on the roof, but can't come down until the truck fills up.

The goal is to fill an entire 18-foot long moving truck to the brim with non-perishable food items.

"Coming where I came from, growing up being homeless, using food banks and food pantries, those helped me and helped me grow up," said McDermott. "There's a problem in Hastings, and we want to do something about it."

Donations for 'Heroes for Hunger' will be accepted at the Burlington Center in Hastings from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning on the 24th.
