GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - - A Central Nebraska museum is receiving several grants for its development.

The EPIC Discovery Center announced Monday that it received $864,000 in grants.

The Sherwood Foundation, the Chief Foundation, and other local funders and foundations awarded the grants to the Grand Island project.

These grants, along with pledges and private donations, will be matched by the $5 million grant provided through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development's Shovel-Ready Capital Recovery and Investment Act.

The STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) museum for children of all ages is set to be developed in the former armory building within Ryder Park.

The center will consist of 15,000 square feet of exhibits and programming for children, tweens, and teens.

These grants, pledges, and donations total more than $3.1 million; representing 63% of its initial goal.
