Kearney eSports wins state title in Div. l Mario Kart

Students at Kearney High are celebrating a state championship in eSports.

KEARNEY, Neb. — Students at Kearney High are celebrating a state championship in eSports.

The Bearcats won the state title in Division l Mario Kart on Feb. 3 in a championship event held at York University. Kearney defeated Gretna, Lincoln East and Creighton Prep to claim the title.

"This victory is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our students," said Nate Garringer, coach of the Kearney High School eSports Team. "We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and how they represented our school and community on the State stage."

The members of the championship team are: Jakob Shaul, Cody Bridges, Rain Guerrero, Issac Wheeler and Jaren Miller.

The tournament was sanctioned by the Nebraska Schools eSports Association.
