KEARNEY, Neb. — A former UNK football player accused of robbing people on campus will spend time in jail.
A judge sentenced 19-year-old Tobechukwu Okafor of Omaha to 90 days behind bars and five years probation at a hearing yesterday. Okafor pleaded no contest in June to two counts of third-degree assault and one count of criminal mischief. The charges had been reduced from robbery as part of a plea deal.
The case dates back to last October when Okafor was accused of trying to steal a wallet, water bottle and glasses. He was listed as a redshirt freshman cornerback on the developmental squad for the UNK football team last fall. He is no longer on the team.
