GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Mural Project in Grand Island has started on its second phase.
The project started last year. The walls of a warehouse at Walnut and South Front Streets near downtown were filled by murals made by 14 different area artists.
Project coordinator Andrea Hall said the mural sparked attention.
“We got a lot of interest last year and we’re looking to use that momentum to do more things in Grand Island," Hall said. "The purpose of the Grand Island Partnership for the Arts, who are funding us, to bring more color to Grand Island to help the economic vitality of Grand Island."
Phase 2 will add four new murals by four artists, two that have previously done murals and two new ones: Drew Karen Gutierrez, Jane Ryan, Andrea Galvez and Trevor Issac.
Hall said organizers are open to getting more help from the public.
“If you’re interested in helping out in any way, whether it be sponsoring an artist, donating painting, even bringing artists water or coming, driving by and cheering them on. That's what we need,” Hall said.
The second phase of the mural is set to be done July 8. The final phase is set to be painted in September.
