Pursuits lead to arrest of Lexington man
LEXINGTON, Neb. -- A Lexington man was arrested after several pursuits on Friday.
The Nebraska State Patrol said the Logan County Sheriff's Office was pursuing a vehicle north of North Platte on Highway 83 at 9:15 a.m. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, had reportedly fled a traffic strop and was heading south at a high rate of speed.
Officers said the Silverado would drive into the northbound lane at times. LCSO stopped pursuing the suspect after they crossed the Lincoln County line.
According to authorities, officers with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and North Platte Police continued the pursuit north of town but stopped due to safety concerns for the public. The Silverado had reportedly entered North Platte and was still traveling at a high rate of speed.
Troopers said they saw the Silverado going east on Interstate 80 at 10:00 a.m. and tried to do a traffic stop near mile marker 220. The vehicle reportedly sped up and fled the area, causing another pursuit to begin.
NSP said the Dawson County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit at this time. The Silverado left I-80 at mile marker 231, turned east on Highway 30, and headed for Lexington. The pursuit reportedly stopped when the Silverado pulled into town.
According to authorities, they found the address that was connected to the vehicle registration. NSP, DCSO and Lexington Police went to the address and found the Silverado in the driveway.
Officials said the driver came out of the home and tried to run away on foot but was quickly taken into custody. The driver was 42-year-old Jesus Torres, of Lexington.
NSP said Torres was lodged in the Dawson County Jail for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing a peace officer. There may be more charges later related to the incidents in Logan and Lincoln Counties.
