LEXINGTON, Neb. — A former Adams Central standout athlete will be the new boys basketball coach at Lexington High School.

The school announced Wednesday that Tyler Slechta will lead the Minutemen boys basketball program. Slechta isn’t far removed from his playing days, as he graduated high school just two years ago. Activities Director Phil Truax cited Slechta’s experience as a team captain on state runner up basketball and football teams as reasons for selecting the former Patriot.

“Tyler’s ability to lead with confidence and by example on the basketball court and football field have provided him with many valuable skills necessary as he takes on the new role of head coach,” Truax said.

Truax says he expects Slechta to build on the school’s tradition.

“Tyler has great knowledge of the game and brings a ton of passion to the basketball court," Truax said. "The future of the boys basketball program is very bright with Coach Slechta leading the way.”

Slechta takes over for Zach Jones, who resigned after six seasons leading the Minutemen. He posted a 54-90 record and coached Lexington to consecutive winning seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20. The Minutemen finished 5-19 last season.
