CENTRAL CITY, Neb. -- Two people were arrested after a weekend standoff in central Nebraska.

34-year-old Wyatt A. Barrett of Merrick County was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant for strangulation, sse of a weapon to commit a felony, and domestic assault.

32-year-old Ashley D. Roberts of Hall County was also taken into custody for aiding and abetting a fugitive.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m., authorities from Merrick, Sherman and Howard County responded to a residence in rural Merrick County.

According to the Merrick County Sheriff's Office, information was obtained about a fugitive, identified as Barrett, inside the residence who was wanted for felony Merrick County warrants.

Authorities gained access into the residence and Barrett was located barricaded in the attic of the residence, according to a press release.

Barrett reportedly secured the attic door with screws to detour capture and was later arrested without further incident.

Both Barrett and Roberts were transported to jail.
