GISH Hiring Fair brings job opportunities to students
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Grand Island Senior High Hiring Fair gathers employers from all over Nebraska.
More than 60 businesses were at the school to offer students a variety of job opportunities, internships and just a space to inform students about what their business is all about.
Director of Career and College Readiness, Dan Phillips said the event’s purpose is to expose students to different businesses.
“Really is about, at a minimum, building relationships," Phillips said. "Getting in front of business partners, finding out what jobs are available right now, having those conversations about what jobs are available in the future, and being able to get out and get an in-depth experience in what they are interested in to see if it’s for them. ”
Recruiting Specialist for Trego-Dugan Aviation, Krista Schufeldt said it gave her the opportunity to talk about a career many might not consider right away.
“A lot of them have been outside of the aviation pathway which is very neat to see, spark their interest in aviation when they didn’t even think that might be a possibility for them," Schufeldt said. "It’s a great opportunity to dive in and be able to explain like what our company does, what opportunities are in aviation.”
Eleventh grader, Jesse Gonzalez said this was a chance to explore different opportunities.
“I think it's going to benefit me by showing me all the opportunities out there, and all the directions I can go, instead of just sticking to one,” Gonzalez said.
